8th 9th November 08 – Lodz, Poland

( report by Sensei Haley Williams)

This is a tough competition with a high standard of competitors so firstly I want to congratulate Jessica Hill, James Edgerley and Sam Donley all three from Red Sun Ken Yu Kai as this was their first outing with the squad. Jessica did exceptionally well, getting through several rounds in the kata section.  It was tough for the two boys being junior grades up against some tough European competition.  I hope they all enjoyed the experience, it was nice to see some new faces involve in the squad and hopefully we will see you again.  Well done to Jordan Williamson from Sale Dojo who also fought with the squad for the first time.  As for our usual squad members, not one of them came home without a medal. Well done Natasha Holmes 1st place kata,  Aaron Kiernan  3rd place in kata, Chris Williamson and Abby Davidson for 3rd in kumite.  Best individual of the day has to be ‘Tootsie girl’ Lauren Tutty. Despite moving up an age group in kumite she had no problem securing 1st place. I have to admit in the kata final my hopes were not high as she was up against a family member of the organiser, I should have had more faith in Lauren, she won with a fantastic performance.  Now for my favourite part, the team kumite which consisted of Shaun Mulai, Chris and Aaron. There were 16 teams in total.  Shaun and Chris won the first two rounds without any assistance from Aaron. Aaron stepped in though in the semi’s securing a place in the final. Despite a lot of noise from the supporters of the other team, a draw and two wins got us 1st place for the second year running. Well done boys, I for one was very proud of you all.
