25th February 2018 – KSE -XI-

This is the first time we have entered the KSE Karate Championships and I try to arrange competitions within a one and a half hour traveling radius of the dojo, so travelling to Gloucester is just a little too far out for our young squad to travel in a day. I like to encourage our students to experience karateka outside of the dojo walls but with children of my own I obviously can’t get to every event and I’m a little uncomfortable with students competing with no coach. So on this occasion I would like to say a huge thanks for Sensei Ray Eagle for coaching our squad, as without help from our club Instructors we wouldn’t be as active on the competition circuit.

Ray’s generosity was instantly paid back with fantastic performances from Sam Eagle and Ellie Costin in their retrospective kata sections, both winning the gold medal and in both cases not dropping a flag. The Blake sisters also took silver and a bronze in the girl 10 to 11 category, with younger sister Liberty claiming the bragging rights, Tahlia then went on to claim them back with a silver in the kumite.

A fantastic return with such a small entry, well done all.
